28. Merritt Birdsong⁵ Harwell (Josiah⁴, Joseph³, Lemuel², Samuel¹) was born in TN 1831. Merritt died December 27, 1905 in TX, at 74 years of age. His body was interred Trees Family Cemetery.

He married Sarah P. Tarpley in Giles County, TN, February 27, 1866. Sarah was born in TN July 15, 1841. Sarah was the daughter of John Clayton Tarpley and Temperance Stone. Sarah died December 2, 1927 in Cedar Hill, Dallas County, TX, at 86 years of age.

Merritt Birdsong Harwell and Sarah P. Tarpley had the following children:

+ 36 i. Oscar Leonidas⁶ Harwell was born December 30, 1869.

37 ii. Minnie Harwell was born About 1873. Minnie died About 1892 in Ellis County, TX. Her body was interred in Farris, Ellis County, TX.

+ 38 iii. Josiah "Joe" Clayton Harwell was born April 27, 1876.

39 iv. Julia E. Harwell was born in Giles County, TN 1879. Julia died 1905 in Dallas County, TX, at 26 years of age. She married Robert Edward "Lee" Trees in Dallas County, TX, March 23, 1898. Robert was born in Union County, IL June 12, 1870. Robert was the son of Crawford Trees and Anna Minerva Kimmel. Robert died 1948 in Cedar Hill, Dallas County, TX, at 78 years of age. 40 v. Rebecca Mason Harwell was born unknown. She married John Wesley Malone in Giles County, TN, July 7, 1884. (See John Wesley Malone for the continuation of this line.)
