1. Jeremiah S.¹ Hurst was born in Ross County, OH 1832. Jeremiah died November 26, 1864 in Columbia, TN, at 32 years of age.

He married Caroline L. Catt in Rensselear, Jasper County, IN, July 31, 1856. Caroline was born in Henry County, IN September 3, 1838. Caroline was the daughter of John Catt and Elizabeth Lewis. Caroline died April 10, 1912 Fort Scott, Bourbon County, KS, at 73 years of age. Her body was interred Fort Scott, Bourbon County, KS, Evergreen Cemetery.

Jeremiah S. Hurst and Caroline L. Catt had the following children:

2 i. Erwin Andrew² Hurst was born June 3, 1857.

3 ii. Loren Alonzo Hurst was born in Jasper County, IN April 7, 1859. Loren died September 14, 1889 Fort Scott, Bourbon County, KS, at 30 years of age. He married Alfaretta Branson in Garland, KS, December 31, 1882. Alfaretta was born in Logan County, OH September 6, 1863. Alfaretta died June 19, 1935 Fort Scott, Bourbon County, KS, at 71 years of age.

4 iii. John Samuel Hurst was born March 8, 1861.

5 iv. Nelson S. A. Hurst was born March 4, 1864.
